Obviously, it’s been a while since updating what all we’ve had going on! You know that ducks have been added, but we’ve also attempted processing one. We wanted to make sure we enjoyed the eggs and the meat before putting in a ton of effort. The meat was good, just not a lot of it. Ducks seem to be more feather than meat for their size. But we managed to get 100% girl ducks! So now we have more eggs than we know what to do with.

Another new update! My sister won some quail eggs from a Facebook page that we follow. She shared half of them with me and they’re currently in the incubator. Today is day 12 and they will be on lock-down soon! There’s a Blink camera so we can find out exactly when they hatch! We intend to build the quail hutch from Made New Farmstead. We have right around three weeks to get that done.

I think our last big update will be that I applied for a beginner’s beekeeping grant from Kentucky State! It’s not approved yet, but my fingers are crossed! Leon is in beekeeping club with 4H. So, we just got him a basic suit so he can start learning with the co-op hives. We also went to a beekeeping school event in Scottsville, KY where we learned a TON. I’m pretty optimistic about starting with bees this year. Wish us luck!
